Together with our Global Health Coalition we aim to provide, develop and scale transformative and sustainable solutions through our multi-national and multi-sector programming and investments to accelerate access to equatable healthcare and medical education for everyone. Collectively with programs in place, we are dedicated to strengthening health systems, expanding access, responding to humanitarian and disaster relief efforts, unleashing the impact and power of our coalition, and leaving no one behind.

Since 2010, Children of War Foundation, alongside our implementors, has empowered underserved communities by providing surgical & medical care, medical education, and access to infrastructure, impacting the lives of thousands of children and their greater community. COWF's SDGs partners and global health network comprises over 30,000 health care professionals, innovators, and educators, from private as well as public entities, alongside experts from various industries, globally. We embarked on our first international surgical mission at the onset of the Syrian civil war, where we mobilized a surgical team to operate on children while educating local healthcare professionals. Since then, COWF has continued to mobilize teams several times a year, from various academic and hospital institutions throughout the world.

In addition to providing sustainable healthcare solutions, medical education and access to development opportunities while on outreach missions, COWF also provides access to virtual consulting, primary & secondary consults, diagnosing, and referrals through our global health partnerships.

Focused on sustainable solutions and our vision, we continue to further our reach with a growing network, where access to educators, healthcare providers and professionals from leading institutions, private and public entities, and innovators, accelerating our mission to enable our stakeholders. Through collective action, our vision to live in a world where every child, family & community has equal access to healthcare and medical education is possible. Our partnerships, advisory and network enables our organization to connect and consult children and communities in need with some of the most innovative healthcare professionals, educators, and a multitude of talented professionals, globally. The impact is far reaching.

Furthermore, COWF has sponsored many candidates with life threatening and or complex ailments, when and where care is not available in home country. This includes supervising the legal necessities and arrangements with our U.S. Embassy counterparts, under COWF sponsorship, and transporting them to the united states or to our partner health institutions in other regions. Candidates are considered by severity, where COWF coordinates all travel arrangements required, travel documentation, and searches for nurturing accommodations or host families. As of 2019, COWF candidates will be assigned to a designated social worker/legal counsel to oversee stay and care. Many of our cases have been published, learn more by contacting info@cowf.org

Children that cannot be transported to the U.S. For follow-up or surgical treatment will be considered as a COWF candidate for one of the organization’s international medical missions, where academically affiliated surgeons and support team, comprised of multiple speciality disciplines, travel abroad, to address multiple cases throughout the duration of their visit. To further our reach, we are more than happy to refer children to other organizations and affiliates within our network for care in our absence.

While on medical missions and outreach initiatives, COWF also provides and donates medical equipment, tools and supplies, most of which are left behind for long-term sustainable usage and medical education, with local health care professionals at accredited facilities. Surgical care is 100% free.

Opportunities for research, internships, mentoring, shadowing and surgical fellow training associated with academic and private institutions are available, reach out to us at info@cowf.org

COWF's collaborative efforts also draws global awareness and visibility to regions of the world where educators, health care professionals and community leaders come together, learn, and portray humanitarian collaboration as an advocate for health, education, inclusion, peace, solidarity, and hope. COWF strives to empower & inspire individuals and underserved communities.

COWF Partnership with Invincikids

About the partnership

COWF works with an extensive global network of professional healthcare partners, from clinicians to consultants, private, public, academic and institutional entities to promote collaboration, innovation, and solutions to bridge the gap between healthcare equity and its accessibility worldwide. Through Invincikids we are able to increase the access and use of immersive technologies for mental and physical pain management in children in healthcare settings all over the world, regardless of barriers in time and geographic context.

Background

Together we're working across triage clinics, hospitals, and refugee encampments, COWF partnered with Invincikids to promote better access to the use of immersive technologies for health and pain management across their Jordan programs. In Jordan, COWF's team used the VR headsets and preloaded programs supplied by Invincikids for hospital applications and improved children's mental well-being in local communities.

Clinical Pain Management

Many Syrian refugees often arrive in Jordan sick, injured, and at a high risk for infections because of the overcrowded living conditions. High levels of stress can also cause further complications and risks for patients, especially women and children. COWF implemented Invincikid's program, particularly for pediatric patients receiving medical care at Italian Hospital Amman and other local hospitals and triage clinics.

Mental Wellness for Children

In refugee encampments based near the capital Amman, the COWF team introduced virtual reality therapies at their COWF School of Dreams located on the Syrian border to help children who suffer from severe anxiety and high stress due to their living circumstances and environment. Additionally, the significance relating the emotional well-being of the children in the current difficult times due to the lack of other forms of after-school activities which are currently scarce and or non-existent due to lockdowns, decreased aid funding and social distancing as well as restriction and policies implemented to fight COVID.

In efforts to promote wellness, emotional well-being, and mindfulness, the COWF began an after-school program where students could test and experience the VR headsets as a means of entertainment and positive distraction.

As part of their after-school activity, instructors gave students the chance to play with the VR program. Once the children completed their VR game, instructors would regroup the students and ask them about their experience to fortify and reinforce a positive memory.
